Sports Medicine/ Allied Health
Sports Medicine 1
# 009364 (one-half
credit) This course is
designed to provide an overview of the field of sports medicine as well
as expose students to fundamental skills involved in a sports medicine
healthcare setting. Students will learn about the study of medicine and
how the field of sports medicine is unique in its focus and delivery of
healthcare. This is a semester course that will meet for one
hour each day in the fall semester. Open to Sophomore, Junior, and
Senior level students. Students scheduling this course should also
schedule Allied Health I.
Sports Medicine 2
# 009365 (one-half credit)
This course, taught in the second semester, is designed to provide
students with an overview of the pathology of sports injuries and the
basic management skills. Students will learn about the body’s response
to an injury and how to apply basic emergency action principles and
skills. An emphasis is placed on an athlete’s psychological and
sociological response to an injury and basic coping strategies utilized
by healthcare professions to assist them to recovery. Prerequisite:
Sports Medicine 1. This is a
semester course that will meet for one
hour each day in the spring semester.. Open to Sophomore, Junior, and
Senior level students.
Students scheduling this
course should also schedule Allied Health I.
Sports
Medicine 3
# A09401 (one full credit)
This course is designed to
provide a knowledge base on the management techniques of athletic
injuries and illnesses used by professional healthcare providers. It
also allows students the opportunity to select their own sports medicine
topic for further study. Prerequisite: Successful completion of
Sports Medicine I and II. This is a full year course that will meet for
one hour each day. Students scheduling this course should also schedule
Allied Health II.
Allied Health 1

credit)-or-#009363 (two full credits)
This course is designed to prepare the student with entry-level skills
and knowledge common to many allied health care areas. Work-based
learning strategies appropriate for this course may include job
shadowing and/or other fieldtrips. This is a full year course that
will meet for one or two hours each day. Open to Sophomore, Junior, and
Senior level students. Students scheduling this course should also
schedule Sports Medicine I and II.
Allied
Health 2

A06201 (two-full credits)
This course is designed to provide specific entry-level skills and
knowledge as assigned by the instructor, which prepares the student to
work in specific health care area at the beginning level. Oral and
written communication skills, as well as basic clinical skills are
reinforced in this course. This is a full year course that will meet
for one or two hours each day. Prerequisite: Successful completion of
Allied Health I. Students scheduling this course should also schedule
Sports Medicine III.
