Mission Statement: 

To create a regional center for the delivery of instruction via an electronic media.


The Distance Learning Academy will offer opportunities for courses, lessons, and professional development programs to be broadcast to a school via compressed video and to offer opportunities for students to participate in online courses similar to those being offered through the Louisiana Virtual School.

AP English Online

(1 full credit)

This course, taught by an Academy instructor, will be available online. This is a college level course in which students successfully completing the AP exam (score of 3 or higher) can earn college credit. This course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. A face-to-face meeting with the instructor will be required once each six weeks. AP Biology 2 Online

(1 full credit)

This course, taught by an Academy instructor, will be available online. This is a college level course in which students successfully completing the AP exam (score of 3 or higher) can earn college credit. The focus of this course is to provide students with a foundation in the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills needed in college. face-to-face meeting with the instructor will be required once each six weeks. Physic via compressed video

(1 full credit)

This live interactive course will be taught via live video by an Academy Instructor. Students taking this course should have a successful math background. Emphasis will be placed on vectors, work, energy, physical states of matter, heat, and electricity. Prerequisite: Algebra 2. Open to junior and senior level students enrolled at Starks, Vinton, DeQuincy, and Bell City High Schools only. Cain

Louisiana Virtual School Coursework

 

Louisiana Virtual School Courses are offered free of charge to qualifying students. Any student enrolled in an approved CPSB public school is eligible to participate. Students can access the course offerings through the LVS website, www.louisianavirtualschool.net. Students interested in completing coursework through LVS through the summer should contact the Academy as soon as possible at 217.4390 and ask for the Director. Students will be enrolled through the Academy and will complete coursework while working online at the Academy. An Academy instructor will be on-site during the regular school day and after school each day. Requires written permission from Principal and Counselor.
