COURSE CATALOG



The following courses will be offered for credit at the LCB Academy during the SPRING 2008 Semester:

Entertainment Media #009290 (one-half credit)
Entertainment Media is a survey of entertainment in the United States from the 1900 – 1960’s. Many different media will be explored such as the Silent Era, Radio Era, Black and White Era, the “Talkies”, Color, Cinemascope and Cinerama of the 1950’s. Students will study how these art forms reflected the society in which they were created. Class will meet one day a week after school, 4:00 pm – 6:45 pm. Day of week tba. Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors that have taken Art 1 –or- have permission of the instructor.

Art 3-D Design #9302 (one-half credit)
This course will involve the student in the production of hands-on art such as sculpture, pottery, stained glass, paper mache, etc. The course will introduce the background of the medium and include step by step procedures necessary to complete an individual project. Class will meet one day a week after school, 4:00 pm – 6:45 pm. Day of week tba. Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors that have taken Art 1 –or- have permission of the instructor.


Music Mastery 1 #009179 (one-half credit)
This course offers a unique blend of instrumental and choral music exploration that expands the range of musical experience and performance beyond that found in typical musical courses. Elements of classical, folk, spiritual, jazz, electronic and avant-garde music are components of the curriculum. Performance, composition, appreciation and improvisation are utilized to enhance the preparation of students for music careers or lifelong participation in musical activities. Schedule of face to face class time will be based on each student and assigned instructor. Open to students sixth grade and above currently enrolled in a music course at the home-based school and/or recommendation by CPSB music teacher/principal.

Introduction to Plant Process Technology #009266 (one-half high school credit –AND- three hours credit at SOWELA)
This course, taught in cooperation with SOWELA Technical College, is an introduction to Process Technology. The course covers a basic overview of an operator’s job including responsibilities and duties, personal and environmental safety, workplace communication/ethics and industrial equipment. Open to Senior level students. Class will begin at 1:30 pm each day and conclude at 3:00 pm. This course is offered free of charge to actively enrolled CPSB students.


Louisiana Virtual School Coursework
Louisiana Virtual School Courses are offered free of charge to qualifying students. Any student enrolled in an approved CPSB public school is eligible to participate. Students can access the course offerings through the LVS website, www.louisianavirtualschool.net. Students interested in completing coursework through LVS through the summer should contact the Academy as soon as possible at 217.4390 and ask for the Director. Students will be enrolled through the Academy and will complete coursework while working online at the Academy. An Academy instructor will be on-site during the afternoon and after school each day. Requires written permission from Principal and Counselor.
